Why I Keep Running the Kitchen Cabinet Kings Entrepreneur Scholarship

I haven’t updated this blog in a while.

That’s probably not the strongest opening line for a personal website, but it is the honest one. Between running Kitchen Cabinet Kings, working on new projects, and the general chaos of business ownership, this site has been sitting quietly in the background.

But this felt like the right reason to post again.

Each year, Kitchen Cabinet Kings runs our Entrepreneur Scholarship, a program created to support students who are thinking seriously about business, innovation, and what it means to build something of their own.

For 2026, we’re awarding $2,500 to one student with a strong entrepreneurship essay. The scholarship is open to U.S. students enrolled in, or planning to enroll in, a college, university, or trade school program.

Why This Scholarship Matters to Me

Kitchen Cabinet Kings started as a small business with a simple idea: make it easier for people to buy quality kitchen cabinets online without paying traditional showroom prices.

That sounds obvious now, but when we started in 2010, selling cabinets online was not exactly the safe route. Cabinets are heavy. Kitchen projects are stressful. Customers want trust, guidance, samples, design help, and real support before they spend thousands of dollars.

We had to figure out a lot as we went.

That experience shaped how I think about entrepreneurship. It is not just about having a clever idea. It is about solving real problems, staying consistent, listening to customers, and building something that can survive outside of the original excitement.

That’s also what makes this scholarship meaningful.

We get to hear from students who are thinking about business in fresh ways. Some are interested in technology. Some care about local businesses. Some want to solve problems in industries most people overlook. The best essays usually do not sound like someone trying to impress a panel. They sound like someone who has noticed a real problem and cannot stop thinking about how to fix it.

That is the entrepreneurial instinct.

A Small Push Can Matter

A $2,500 scholarship will not solve the full cost of college. I wish it could.

But it can help. It can cover books, supplies, tuition costs, trade school expenses, or a little breathing room during a busy semester.

More importantly, I hope it gives one student a reason to take their ideas seriously.

When you are young, it is easy to talk yourself out of building something. You think you need more experience, more money, more connections, or some perfect moment when everything suddenly makes sense.

That moment usually does not come.

Most businesses start with someone taking the next imperfect step.

If you are a student with an interest in entrepreneurship, I hope you apply.

And if you know a student who is always talking about business ideas, startups, or ways to solve problems they see around them, please send it their way.

Sometimes the next great entrepreneur just needs someone to tell them their idea is worth taking seriously.
